Learn. Experience. Succeed!
Archer Preparatory College aims to equip each of our graduates with the skills, knowledge and confidence they will need to make a smooth transition to their post-secondary studies. Our graduates demonstrate:
Leadership
Senior level students are encouraged to actively participate in the school and its surrounding community by taking leadership roles in the Student Council, the Social Action Committee and Peer Tutoring.
Critical Thinking
The guidance department will provide each student with assistance in choosing the best possible post-secondary studies and will also lead the student in career counseling.
Initiative
Students can elect to take a cooperative education credit, whereby they are able to work with a mentor and learn firsthand the skills required to succeed in their chosen field of work.
Knowledge
Students can begin working toward Advanced Placement credits early in their academic career to ensure acceptance and credit transfers to some of the top Canadian and international universities.
Mastery
By becoming actively involved in the creation of their Individualized Learning Paths, students are highly motivated to achieve the goals which they set for themselves. A high level of intrinsic motivation stimulates the student to put more effort into their studies, resulting in a more rewarding learning experience.
The Ontario Secondary School program provides students with a comprehensive base on which to build a future. Our experienced teachers meet or exceed the requirements of the Ontario Ministry of Education. The education system in the province of Ontario requires four years of study (grades 9-12) and a total of 30 successfully completed credits to obtain an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). A credit is equal to 110 hours of study. Most students will take four credits per semester. To earn an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) you must:
TAKE 18 COMPULSORY CREDITS
PLUS 1 ADDITIONAL CREDIT IN EACH OF THE FOLLOWING:
- English or a third language OR Social Sciences and Humanities OR Canadian and World Studies OR Guidance and Career Education OR Cooperative Education
- Health and Physical Education OR Arts OR Business Studies OR Cooperative Education
- Grade 11 or 12 Science of Technological education (9-12) OR Cooperative Education
TAKE 12 OPTIONAL CREDITS
Students will round out their educational requirements by choosing from the list of courses offered each semester. Through guided selection, students gain experience in their area of interest and are better prepared to pursue their academic goals.
COMPLETE 40 HOURS OF COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
All Ontario High School students are expected to gain awareness of the community outside of their school. Students may volunteer in a variety of ways within their community to fulfill this mandatory requirement.
PASS THE PROVINCIAL SECONDARY SCHOOL LITERACY TEST
This standardized government test consists of a reading section and a writing section and ensures that students have achieved an adequate level of English language proficiency to be successful in their future endeavours.
Students who wish to come to Archer from another institution or who wish to finish their education in their home country should submit previous academic records to Archer Preparatory College for evaluation and granting of equivalency credits.
