Be A Homestay Family

"At Archer College the purpose of the homestay program is to help international students gain an understanding of Canadian culture by spending time with a family and learning about Canadian customs. At the same time, there will hopefully be a mutual exchange, as the Canadian family will gain insight into a new culture. This will ideally be done through the sharing of experiences, activities and communication between the family and the student.

It should be noted that a homestay is not the same as renting a room or having a boarder.

The international student is seeking to learn and get to know the family, and not just pay for somewhere to sleep. For this reason, Archer College hopes that when possible and convenient, homestay students be included in family activities.

Expectations

The family is expected to provide the following:

- private room with access to a washroom

- meals (breakfast, bag lunch and dinner)

- access to laundry facilities

- telephone and possibly internet

Upon receiving a completed application, your family's information will be put on file. After reviewing your application we may contact you and arrange a mutually convenient time to visit your family. Once you are registered with the school, students will be placed with your family based on compatibility.
